Bromley Park Care Home welcomes NCS volunteers and Zoolab animals

This month at Bromley Park Care Home we’ve been delighted to welcome volunteers from the National Citizen Service (NCS). The NCS provides a focus for young people to gain experience in a working environment – encouraging them to help create meaningful and positive community projects.

It’s a great scheme for both our residents and the volunteers. Our ladies and gents love having some great company and the volunteers can experience what daily life is like at Bromley Park, which is good for breaking down preconceived ideas about care home life and what people with Dementia are going through. It really helps open their eyes to see that everyone deserves equal respect and time, and that everyone has a story to share and skills to show.

We’ve also had a recent visit from ZooLab – a network of rangers who travel to schools and Homes to showcase a variety of fascinating animals. Their visits always go down very well with our residents, as they get the opportunity to learn about and hold animals from all around the world, including giant African snails, millipedes and snakes. Our residents are always far braver than our staff when it comes to holding the animals! It’s a wonderful experience for everyone and fantastic to see our residents so captivated.
